Why Prince Andrew won’t leave the Royal Lodge voluntarily

Prince Andrew continues to stubbornly remain in Royal Lodge, his residence in Windsor, because moving out would be admitting guilt, a royal expert claims.
“The ideal situation would of course be that Andrew would volunteer to down-size and move somewhere else,” Hugo Vickers told The Sun.
“What I think he feels is that if he moves out of Royal Lodge it’s somehow publicly accepting guilt for which he has not been proved.
“Nevertheless it’s an expensive lifestyle.”

It has been reported King Charles had informed his younger brother he would need to move out of the residence to make way for the Prince and Princess of Wales, who could make better use of the larger home for their three children.
Instead, Andrew has remained in Royal Lodge, despite being forced to stand down from royal duties in May 2020 after giving a disastrous interview to Newsnight regarding his friendship with deceased child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and accusations of sexual assault.

Andrew, 64, hasn’t received an income since, however King Charles has continued to fund his security and provide him with a living allowance, although this is set to end at the end of October.
Vickers said it would be ideal if Prince Andrew voluntarily moved out of the Royal Lodge, despite having a 75-year lease, although he says this is unlikely to happen.
This leaves the Duke of York the challenge of finding a small fortune to pay for it himself.
An offer to move into Harry and Meghan’s former residence, Frogmore Cottage, was reportedly rejected.
Sarah Ferguson, who shares Royal Lodge with Andrew despite their 1996 divorce, was asked about the situation during an interview with HOLA! TV.
When asked when they would be moving out, she replied: “Don’t always believe what you read.”

Of the situation she admitted: “I don’t know. I take every day as it comes.”
Andrew’s situation isn’t being helped by TV series revisiting his Newsnight interview.
A Very Royal Scandal – to be released on September 19 – is based on Prince Andrew’s infamous interview that saw him grilled about Epstein by a journalist for the first time.

A Very Royal Scandal follows the action of Maitlis and Prince Andrew in the lead-up to the interview, the ground-breaking event itself and the many questions left in its wake that would change their lives forever.
It will premiere on Prime Video on September 19.
Netflix released their own series based on the interview earlier this year called Scoop.
