    Description

    Hand Crafted Boomerang Created from and Pecked into Native Mulga Hardwood by an Australia Aboriginal Craftsman working at or Near the Yalata Mission in the Flinders Range of Southern Australia
    Circa: 1950s
    20 inches (51 cm) long x 2 inches (5.2 cm) wide
    Condition: Very Good: There is slight wear. There are no repairs or areas of restoration.
    Description: This boomerang was made from fine native hardwood (mulga wood) with excellent form and sensitive carving showing emu in their native habitat. The design was pecked into the wood. This method of decoration was used on boomerangs that were offered to travelers and tourists as decorative items and encouraged by the missionaries of Yalata Mission to generate cash for the local native population. The form and size is appropriate for hunting wild flocking birds.
    The item was found in a San Francisco Bay Area estate.
