    Description

Great Britain 1943 Wren Farthing King George VI (S.4116, KM.843) Extremely Fine
Wren Farthing (1937-56) The humble farthing was completely re-designed as part of the abortive Edward VIII coinage, but most of the reverse designs re-appeared for 1937 with his brother, George VI on the obverse. It is easy to overlook what a revolutionary coin this was. Centuries of royal insignia, coats of arms and grandiose images of non-existent semi-deities had been replaced by a simple wild bird and  a small and almost insignificant one at that. The design is unfussy, accurate, and attractive.
